Cumulative Projects
The curriculum also includes four (4) cumulative projects where students choose a desired job (such as an entry level position) and base all other financial decisions from an average expected income. Each project simulates how to draft a personal budget as a young adult to mimic as realistically as possible a real-life experience.
The purposeful design of each project keeps previously learned skills top of mind through repeition and meaningful application which are necessary for skill retention.
"These materials were great to use with my students in their junior and senior years to help to introduce them to concepts of consumer mathematics. Although all students in my state are required to take a personal finance component in their senior year of social studies, my students with the most severe disabilities do not often gain much from those lessons due to a lack of understanding and scaffolding. This is not at the fault of the teachers, who do their best to support the students, but because the curriculum expects that the students have already taken and passed Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. This makes it challenging for students with moderate to severe disabilities to become fully engaged in the experience. These materials are provided in a way that makes them easily and readily accessible to a variety of learners. 10/10 would recommend."
